WHEN TO GO ON A TREK

While Nepal's hiking season technically spans from autumn to spring, the majority of tourists visit during the former. First-time trekkers to Nepal should go there during one of these popular times. Even though there will be more people on the trails, we still think it's a good idea.

The best time to go hiking in Nepal is during the autumn months (October-November). Clear mountain views, sunshine, comfortable temperatures, and relatively little rain are all possible at this time of year. There will be hordes of other travelers on the trail, and teahouses will be crowded, especially along the more well-traveled paths.

Spring (March-April) is the second most popular time to go trekking in Nepal, after autumn. Massive rhododendron trees grow across the hillsides of Nepal as the winter melts on high mountain routes. This time of year has temperate temperatures and is excellent for wildlife watching. Spring hiking has two main drawbacks: crowded routes and the risk of hazy sky, which can obscure mountain views. However, foggy skies become less of a problem at higher altitudes.

Even if you can't make it to Nepal during the popular trekking seasons, you can still have a great experience. The cost of living is lower, it is simpler to make friends with the locals, and you can discover more solitude. However, you shouldn't be too blasé about picking your travel dates, as there are substantial drawbacks to doing the journey outside of the high seasons in Nepal.

December through February is when seasoned winter tourists will find bright days and stunning alpine scenery. Colder weather, shorter days, and sudden, severe storms are all potential issues during the winter months. In addition, significant snowfall at high elevations will make many popular paths impassable at this time of year.

There is normally a recommendation against going on a trek during the wetter months of May through September. Aside from landslides, monsoon rains in Nepal are also known for bringing leaches. Both are unpleasant, but the former makes mountain travel difficult (if not dangerous), whereas the latter is just gross and annoying. At this time of year, the weather is typically hot and humid, and clouds frequently cover the mountains.
